Missed-call text back
Missed-call text back is an automation that texts a caller soon after their call goes unanswered, inviting them to continue the conversation by text message.
Missed-call text back catches callers you could not answer. When a call to your business number goes unanswered, the system sends a text from that same number, usually within a minute, so the caller has a reason to wait for you instead of dialing the next business on their list.
How it works
- The phone system detects a missed or abandoned call.
- It sends a short text, such as "Sorry we missed your call. How can we help? Reply here and we'll get back to you."
- The reply goes to a shared inbox, or to an AI agent that can answer questions, qualify the inquiry and book.
- The conversation is logged in your CRM against the caller's number.
What you need
- A business number that can send texts. The caller also needs a phone that can receive them; a landline caller will not see the message.
- In the US, registration for business texting from a standard 10-digit number through A2P 10DLC.
- Opt-out handling, so anyone who replies STOP gets no further texts. Check how TCPA consent rules and carrier messaging guidelines apply to your messages.
Its limits
Text back is a recovery step, not a replacement for answering. Some callers will not reply to a text, and urgent calls need a person. An AI receptionist answers the call in the first place; text back then covers what remains, such as dropped calls.
How it relates to Worcia
Missed-call text back is part of Concierge, Worcia's AI receptionist, with replies flowing into Cadenza, its lead follow-up system. See the use case Missed-call text back.
