Lead qualification

Lead qualification is the process of deciding whether a prospect fits what a business offers and is likely to buy, based on criteria such as need, budget, timing and authority.

Lead qualification separates inquiries worth pursuing now from those that need nurturing or a polite no. Its goal is to spend sales time where it is most likely to produce revenue, and to give every prospect a clear next step.

How it works

Qualification is a short set of questions with defined answers. A common framework is BANT: budget, authority, need and timeline. Most businesses add their own criteria:

  • A home services company checks service area, job type and urgency.
  • A clinic checks insurance, the treatment requested and availability.
  • A law firm checks practice area, jurisdiction and key dates, then runs a conflict check before taking a matter.
  • An agency checks company size, budget range and decision date.

Each lead then gets an outcome: qualified, routed to booking or a salesperson; not yet, placed in a follow-up sequence; or not a fit, thanked and, where possible, pointed elsewhere.

Qualification differs from lead scoring. Scoring ranks leads on a scale; qualification decides what happens next. Many teams use both.

How it works in a business

AI agents can ask qualifying questions on first contact, by phone or chat, at any hour, and save the answers as structured fields in the CRM. That makes qualification consistent, because every lead gets the same questions, and fast, because qualified leads can book straight away.

How it relates to Worcia

Qualification happens on first contact in Concierge, Worcia's AI receptionist, and feeds Cadenza, its lead follow-up system. See the use case Lead qualification calls.
